Overview
This Collision Prevention, Safety Improvement Project removed roadside hazards, installed guardrail and concrete barrier where warranted, in the 20 miles from the summit of Stevens Pass east to the Coles Corner turnoff to SR 207 and Lake Wenatchee State Park. This section of US 2 had a high number of injury-producing collisions involving vehicles leaving the roadway. Other contributing causes include speeding and severe weather. Construction began July 7th and was complete August 12, 2008.

By reducing the severity of off-road accidents, providing a higher level of protection with 9,308 feet of new guardrail and 2,482 feet of concrete barrier and reducing collisions by removing roadside hazards providing errant drivers with an opportunity to recover control.

Partnerships & Cooperation
WSDOT consulted with the Colville Tribes, Chelan County, BNSF. the US Forest Service and the Stevens Pass Ski Area as the project was designed.
Funding
This project was advertised for private contractor bids on March 24th. Three qualified bids were opened on April 17th. On April 21st, 2008, contract #7534 for $417,798.43 was awarded to Frank Gurney, Inc. of Spokane.
