Overview
This project reduces the number of rocks rolling onto the roadway, creating driving hazards. Construction began April 6, 2009 and was complete August 3, almost a month ahead of schedule. This Preservation Program project stabilized six different rock slopes above US 2, between Orondo and Waterville in Pine Canyon in western Douglas County. Stabilization techniques recommended by WSDOT's Geotechnical branch for this project included removing debris, scaling rocks from the slopes, cutting back the slopes to a flatter angle, installing rock bolts and steel cable netting.

How You Benefit
Cross GlyphImproves Safety
Increased the stability of these rock slopes providing safer driving conditions on US 2.

Partnerships & Cooperation
An on-site "Pre-advertisement" meeting for contractors was held on Nov. 6, 2008, so they could view the work area before it was covered with snow. Coordination with the Colville Tribes was also part of the Design process for this project.
