Overview
We added more than 40 miles of centerline and shoulder rumble strips on US 2 between Monroe and just west of Stevens Pass. We also added high-visibility striping and upgraded signs along the highway.

Rumble strips alert drivers that they are leaving their lane of travel by creating a loud noise and vibrations when the wheels of the car touch the rumble strips. Rumble strips will help keep drivers in their lane and reduce serious crossover and run-off-the-road collisions. High-visibility striping will make the roadway more visible to drivers at night and in bad weather.

Partnerships & Cooperation
This project is one of the improvements identified as part of the US 2 route development plan. We awarded the contract to Wilder Construction on March 24, 2008 and crews began construction in May 2008. Crews finished installing the rumble strips on June 5 and wrapped up the rest of the work by September 2008.
At WSDOT we seek to address the concerns of the tribal nations using the process outlined in Section 106 of The National Historic Preservation Act and the WSDOT Tribal Consultation Policy adopted in 2003 by the Transportation Commission as part of the WSDOT Centennial Accord Plan.
