Overview
This preservation project paved US 2/97 from two miles north of East Wenatchee for 10-3/4 miles, north to Orondo. It was combined with the US 2 South of Orondo Passing Lane project to save money and reduce traffic impacts during construction
 | Improves Safety
A left turn channelization, approximately 1/4 mile south of the Lincoln Rock State Park entrance provides a refuge for northbound vehicles turning into local businesses. The project also provides a smoother driving surface, new stripes, signs and rumble strips.

This project upgrades the structural integrity and extends the life of the pavement.

Partnerships & Cooperation
Safety for the public and the construction workers is paramount while the construction is underway. Both a comprehensive traffic control plan and a work zone safety plan were implemented to protect travelers and workers.
Funding
This project was advertised for private contractor bids on Mar. 23, 2009, renamed the Baker Flats to Orondo Paving and Passing Lane project. Two qualified bids were opened on April 30. On May 4 contract #7718 was awarded to Central Washington Asphalt, Inc. for $3,546,628.13, (31-1/2% below the engineering estimate).

- Pre-existing gas tax (MVA) - $4.60 million
- Total Funding from all sources - $4.60 million
