Overview
This Preservation project stabilized a rock slope on US 2 in Tumwater Canyon in western Chelan County. On Jan. 5, 2006 a rock fall event occured at this location involving 100 cubic yards of rock and debris (that's ten dump truck loads!) Several of the largest rocks reached the roadway blocking both lanes to traffic for hours. Other nearby slopes from MP 91.2 to 91.5 are programmed for stabilization over the next several years. However, it was determined that this location, MP 91.4, needed to be addressed first. Click here for more information about WSDOT's slope stabilization program.
Construction began March 31 and was complete in 15 working days, on April 18, 2008. Hand scaling, installation of horizontal drains and rock bolts were used to stabilize the slope.
Photos of the work are posted on the WSDOT Flickr web site.
