Overview
WSDOT installed approximately 12 miles of cable guardrail in the median as it is a cost-effective method of reducing the severity of median cross-over collisions.
In the last eight years 20 cross over incidents included one fatality, four disabling injuries, and seven evident injuries have occured. There is also evidence of median crossovers that were not reported.
 | Improves Safety
The project provides a safer roadway for the traveling public. Our goal is to help prevent the worst kind of collisions - head-on collisions caused by drivers crossing the median and entering on-coming traffic.
Statistics show that after the installation of cable guardrail, the number of disabling and fatal incidents decreases significantly.
