November 2009
This project is currently in the design phase.
Construction is scheduled in 2010.
Why is WSDOT
constructing engineered log jams along the Hoh River?
This section of US 101 is at risk for erosion from the Hoh River. An analysis of the lower Hoh River has identified the need for additional preventive measures at this location to avoid future emergency repairs.
The End Result
WSDOT will construct engineered log jams in the Hoh River, adjacent to US 101, to prevent river bank erosion associated with flooding.
In addition, this project improves fish habitat by adding large woody debris to the river.
Project Benefits
-
Safety. The engineered log jams will reduce the likelihood of of emergency closures and repairs due to erosion.
-
Environment. This project creates a more desirable and natural river habitat that includes large woody debris.
What is the project timeline?
This project is scheduled for advertisement in January 2010. Construction is scheduled for spring and summer 2010.
