Overview
US 101 east of Sequim is a heavily traveled two-lane roadway with a high volume of trucks and recreational vehicles.
Previously, there was limited opportunities for motorists to pass slow moving vehicles resulting in traffic backups and unsafe passing due to driver frustration. This project built passing lanes in both the eastbound and westbound directions.
Construction started in July 2008 and was completed in October 2008.
 | Improves Safety
Strategically located passing lanes provide motorists opportunities to safely pass slower-moving vehicles.
|
 | Relieves Congestion
Passing lanes reduce backups behind slower-moving vehicles and allows a more uniform traffic flow.
|
 | Protects Environment
New stormwater treatment facilities reduce pollutants before highway run-off reaches local streams and waterways.
Wetland mitigation for this project was completed as part of the Jimmycomelately Creek Estuary Restoration project.
