We will improve traffic flow through the busy SR 96 (128th St.) intersection with Dumas Road by converting the current transit-only lane into a right-turn lane for eastbound traffic. This will help alleviate the congestion drivers often face during the busy morning and evening commutes.

Why is WSDOT improving the SR 96/Dumas Road intersection?
Traffic at this intersection has increased significantly due to population growth in the area. Currently, eastbound traffic at the intersection doesn’t have a right-turn lane. During busy morning and afternoon commutes, turning traffic often backs up at the signal behind vehicles that want to go straight through the intersection and are waiting for the light to turn green. This causes congestion for all drivers. Adding a dedicated turn lane for eastbound traffic will reduce delays and congestion at the intersection.

The End Result
Drivers headed eastbound on SR 96 will have a dedicated right-turn lane to southbound Dumas Road. The turn lane will reduce backups at the signal and improve traffic flow through the intersection.

Project Benefits
Congestion relief: Providing a dedicated turn lane for eastbound SR 96 drivers will reduce backups at the signal and improve traffic flow.
