This project was originally part of the SR 9/Lundeen to SR 92 project. Instead, WSDOT and the city of Marysville are now partnering to built this project in anticipation of the city constructing a fourth leg to the west of the current SR 9/SR 92 intersection.

Crews will widen the intersection and add lanes to accommodate the planned fourth leg of the intersection.

Why is WSDOT making improvements to the SR 9/SR 92 intersection?
Adding additional through and turn lanes will reduce congestion on to SR 9 and SR 92, making it easier for drivers to make their turns. Reducing congestion will also decrease the number and severity of accidents at this location.

When the city of Marysville completes a new road to the west of SR 9, it will join the SR 9/SR 92 intersection as a fourth leg. These improvements will make it easy to connect this new road to the current intersection.

The End Result
We will add a southbound through lane and southbound left-turn lane on SR 9. On SR 92, we will add a left-turn lane and room for two future through lanes

The widened roadway on SR 9 at the intersection will accomodate bus pullouts. Crews will also update the illumination and signal system.

Project Benefits

  • Traffic flow - Adding the extra turn lanes and through lanes will reduce congestion and improve traffic flow for drivers.
  • Safety - Improvements at this intersection will reduce the number of congestion-related accidents like rear-end and sideswipe collisions.
