Crews constructed a new one-mile section of highway to bypass the old curvy section of SR 9.

Overview
WSDOT and contractor Scarsella Brothers Construction crews completed several improvements to enhance safety on State Route 9 near Arlington. Crews constructed a new, straightened section of highway between Schloman Road and 252nd Street NE, built a new bridge over Harvey Creek and Harvey Creek Road, and completed intersection improvements such as new turn lanes and improved lighting at 252nd Street NE and 268th Street NE.

Improvements such as a new, straight roadway, improved lighting and visibility, and new left-turn lanes will enhance safety for drivers.
Car GlyphRelieves Congestion
Left-turn lanes at 252nd Street NE and 268th Street NE will separate turning vehicles from through traffic, reducing delays at those intersections.
Leaf Glyph Protects Environment
A new 10-foot box culvert beneath SR 9 at Kackman creek will improve fish passage for bull trout and other local species. Crews also made improvements to wetlands and streams along Harvey Creek to enhance the habitat for local wildlife.
