SR 8 - US 101 Undercrossing - Seismic Retrofit

Status

January 2013

WSDOT awarded the contract to MJ Hughes April 17, 2012.

East piers are complete, traffic is switched to allow work on the west piers.  Project is scheduled to be complete in late October 2012.

Why is WSDOT doing this seismic retrofit?
This project modifies the columns supporting the State Route 8 overpass to improve seismic stability and reduce the risk of catastrophic failure.

The End Result
The support columns will be strengthened to reduce the risk of failure in the event of an earthquake.
