Budget Information

SR 7 – Paving and Drainage from Morton to Elbe

Status

Oct. 2017

  • Both direction of SR 7 will alternate through a single lane during daylight hours for pavement repair work
  • Project awarded to Granite Construction
  • Construction to begin in July

Beginning summer 2017, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will replace several culverts underneath SR 7 between Morton and Elbe and then repave the highway. This project will preserve and extend the life of the roadway and provide a smoother ride for drivers.

During construction of the culverts, highway users will alternate through the work zone via a short bypass known as a "shoofly" detour. Once paving work begins, both directions of traffic will alternative through a single lane.

Why is WSDOT replacing culverts and repaving SR 7 between Morton and Elbe?
There are four culverts that run underneath the highway that are aging and falling apart. There could be significant highway damage if the culverts are not replaced. Once this portion of the work is complete, paving will help restore life to this stretch of road that has seen extensive winter-weather pavement damage.

The End Result
This project will preserve the highway and improve the ride quality for all users of the road.

Project Benefits

  • Preserves infrastructure and extends the life of the highway.
  • Reduces the need for costly emergency maintenance repairs and unexpected closures.
