SR 6 - Rock Creek Bridge - West Bridge Replacement

Overview
This project replaces the existing SR 6 Rock Creek West Bridge west of Pe Ell with a new, wider structure that will have 12-foot lanes and 6-foot shoulders.

The new bridge will help improve safety and increase mobility on SR 6 near the Pacific/Lewis county line.

Why is WSDOT replacing this bridge?
The existing concrete bridge was constructed in 1924.

The aging bridge is too narrow to accommodate the types or number of vehicles that need to cross it today. It also does not meet current federal seismic, flood, or structural standards.

WSDOT is replacing the existing structure with a new bridge span built with concrete girders.

The End Result
A wider, safer bridge that accommodates today's traffic and meets current federal seismic, flood and structural standards.

• Safety: Improves safety and drivability by constructing a wider roadway, and installing concrete barriers and new bridge railings.
• Mobility: Provides a wider structure for motorists and allows traffic to flow smoothly across the bridge without delay.

What is the project timeline?

• March 2010: Design began 
• Fall 2011: Right-of-Way Acquisition begins.
• Winter 2012 - 2013: Design complete 
• Spring 2013: The project is scheduled to be advertised to contractors
• Summer 2013: Construction scheduled to begin 
• Fall 2014: Construction scheduled to be complete 
  

Financial Information

Project signage will reflect the cost of construction engineering, project bid award and sales tax.

2005 Gas Tax (TPA) and federal bridge funds: $6.4 million
