  • We advertised this project to contractors in March and will select the lowest qualified bidder this month.
  • Construction will begin in August.

Project overview
We will repave three miles of Mount Baker Highway east of Glacier between Fossil Creek and Wells Creek Road (mileposts 38-42).

Why is WSDOT repaving Mount Baker Highway?
Repaving the highway preserves our valuable infrastructure and also creates a smoother roadway.

The End Result
Along with repaving, we also will upgrade a number of the safety features along the highway like striping, reflectors, markers, signs and guardrail. This stretch of highway gets hit pretty hard during the winter months with snow, plowing, sanding and other winter road maintenance activities. The effort it takes to keep this road open during the winter takes a toll on the highway. A fresh layer of asphalt and new striping and reflectors will help rejuvenate this stretch of road.

Project Benefits

  • Smoother highway
  • Brighter lane lines
  • Brighter reflectors and markers
  • Updated road safety features like guardrail
