SR 531 - Arlington Corridor - Pre-Design Analysis

Status

November 2009

  • We are currently studying the corridor and talking to businesses and drivers who use SR 531. We expect to release the final study recommendations in January.
  • We want to hear from you. Use our online comment form to share your thoughts on how to improve the corridor.
  • Stay informed. Sign up for e-mail updates about projects and issues in Snohomish County.

Together with the city of Arlington, we are studying safety and mobility issues on SR 531 through Arlington. We will conduct a corridor pre-design analysis to identify congestion and safety problems on the corridor between 43rd Ave NE and 67th Ave NE and develop potential solutions.

Why is WSDOT studying SR 531 between 43rd Ave NE and 67th Ave NE in Arlington?
Drivers on SR 531 between 43rd Ave NE and 67th Ave NE in Arlington experience congestion due to increasing traffic volumes. Future growth forecasted for the surrounding area will add even more vehicles to the roadway. The city of Arlington completed a preliminary traffic analysis in 2007, but increasing development along the corridor warrants a more detailed evaluation of safety and mobility issues.

The End Result
When finished, the corridor analysis will guide local jurisdictions and legislators as they determine funding for future projects. The analysis will also help us identify issues that might delay or increase costs during design and construction of future projects. Identifying these risks will allow us to develop a more reliable footprint and preliminary cost estimates for possible improvements.

Project Benefits
The corridor analysis will identify current and future mobility and safety issues on SR 531. The study process will also give interested residents, business owners, drivers and local agencies a chance to share concerns and solutions for SR 531. When finished, the analysis will allow us to develop a list of recommended improvements and an implementation plan.

What is the project timeline?

  • Fall 2008 - Begin corridor analysis
  • Summer 2009 - Finalize recommended improvements
  • January 2010 - Release final report
