SR 522 - Fales Road/Echo Lake Road Interchange - Complete February 2007

Overview
This project replaced the existing intersection at State Route 522 and Fales/Echo Lake Road, east of Maltby, with a new interchange that includes a bridge with one lane in each direction. These improvements will reduce congestion and increase safety on SR 522.

How You Benefit
Cross GlyphImproves Safety
The new interchange and wider shoulders will reduce rear-end and side-impact collisions at SR 522 and Fales/Echo Lake Road.
Car GlyphRelieves Congestion
SR 522 traffic will now be able to bypass the intersection with a new bridge over Fales/Echo Lake Road. This interchange will also allow better access to and from county roads by way of improved on-ramps and exits.
Leaf Glyph Protects Environment
This project creates wetlands, improves storm water storage and treatment, creates three large fish passages that allow fish to easily pass beneath the roadway, and preserves existing plants and grasses.

Partnerships & Cooperation

We continue to receive many calls and e-mails concerning roadway funding, construction, traffic safety, and traffic congestion on SR 522.  We are working with the Washington State Legislature to inform them of the need to provide funding to complete corridor improvements.  As always, your efforts, whether through community groups or individually, make a real difference as we continue to make improvements to this highway corridor.

Funding

This project was funded through the following fund sources:

  • Existing Funds - $39,485,523
  • Other Agency Funds - $480,267
These funds are provided by Snohomish County PUD, Cross Valley Water District and developer mitigation.
  • Total Funding Available from all Sources - $39,965,790

This project was budgeted for $35.2 million.  Due to an unusually wet winter and resulting environmental costs, we've allocated an additional $4.9 million.
