SR 520 bicycle and pedestrian trail now open across Lake Washington!

SR 520 Trail looking eastThe SR 520 Trail across Lake Washington is officially open! Crews swept the trail Tuesday and put the finishing touches on it this morning. At 3 p.m. today (Dec. 20), WSDOT opened the trail to the public. Everyone can now walk, ride or roll across Lake Washington.

Whether you head out to the trail for this evening’s sunset or tomorrow morning’s commute, be sure to check out our bicycle and pedestrian counter at the western end of the trail. The counter displays a running total of those who’ve crossed the trail’s western end. Who knows? Maybe you’ll be one of the first 100 people to venture across.

The 24th Avenue East Bridge also opened today, restoring the previous Lake Washington Loop connection across SR 520. Please note that the next phase of construction, which is scheduled to start in late 2018, will require detours through this area for bicycles, pedestrians and vehicles.

If you can’t make it out to the trail now but want to learn more, check out this drone video and our WSDOT blog post for a peek at the newest section of the SR 520 Trail and get information about how the trail fits in with the regional trail network. Whenever you go, we hope you enjoy your trip across Lake Washington.

Please note: Crews may need to close the SR 520 Trail intermittently early next year for maintenance or miscellaneous work. We’ll announce details in these email updates, on our website and on Twitter when we need to close the trail.
