SR 520 - Eastside Quieter Pavement Evaluation Project - Complete July 2007

Project Status - Complete
SR 520 Eastside Quieter Pavement project limits

Overview
In July 2007, we installed one half mile of rubberized quieter pavement, polymer-modified quieter pavement, and regular asphalt pavement on both directions of SR 520 in the Medina, Clyde Hill, Hunts Point, Yarrow Point and Bellevue area.

We will study these test sections for a period of at least five years to see how quieter pavement performs in the Pacific Northwest's unique driving and climate conditions.

How You Benefit
Dollar Sign Glyph Economic Incentive
We are studying the SR 520 test site for a period of at least five years. The data we collect will help determine if quieter pavement is an economical solution that works well in our unique climate. This information will help policymakers, WSDOT and others make informed decisions about funding and incorporating quieter pavement into future highway projects.

Partnerships & Cooperation
At WSDOT we seek to address the concerns of the tribal nations using the process outlined in Section 106 of The National Historic Preservation Act and the WSDOT Tribal Consultation Policy adopted in 2003 by the Transportation Commission as part of the WSDOT Centennial Accord Plan.

This project is exempt from the Section 106 process according to provisions of the Programmatic Agreement signed on July 18, 2000 between the Washington State Department of Transportation, the Federal Highway Administration, the State Historic Preservation Officer, and the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation.

For more information visit our WSDOT Tribal Liaison Web site.

Funding

WSDOT allocated $5 million from the SR 520 Bridge Replacement and HOV Project budget for the design, construction and monitoring of the test site.
