Status

February 2013

  • All power switch-over is scheduled for completion Feb. 8, with the contractor completing minor items prior to leaving the site.

WSF will upgrade the main electrical distribution system at the Seattle Terminal at Colman Dock.

This system is vital to the electrical operation of the Seattle Terminal, the largest in the ferry system. The distribution system controls and distributes the electrical power that is used throughout the terminal.

Why is WSDOT upgrading the Seattle Terminal electrical distribution system?
The existing system is 45 years old which is well beyond its design life of 25 years. This means the system is at risk of failing which could cause a major disruption of service for ferry customers.

The End Result
The upgrade includes a new electrical switchboard. This will be housed in a new 1,320 square foot electrical transformer building. The structure will also house three Seattle City Light transformers.

Project Benefits
Safety & Mobility: When the new electrical system is installed, the Seattle Ferry Terminal will have a new, safe, and reliable power distribution.
