WSDOT is working to make improvements at two bridges in Federal Way. The Joes Creek bridge and the F.B. Hoit bridge will be cleaned and repainted as well as placing erosion control and provide wetland protection at each bridge.

Why is WSDOT repainting the bridges?
Hoit bridge and Joes Creek bridge were last resurfaced over 10 years ago. Both riveted steel structures need to be cleaned and repainted to preserve the bridge.

Paint is chaulking and peeling throughout both structures and rust is being exposed in many locations. When the bridge is cleaned and repainted, it will be preserved for another 10 years.

Crews started working on Joes Creek bridge mid July. Work is expected to be completed by mid-September. Crews will then begin construction on the F.B. Hoit Bridge immediately and expect to complete work in March 2010.

The End Result
With cleaner and preserved bridges, drivers and park users can enjoy the longer lasting structure.

Project Benefits
Preservation: Painting these structures help stop the corrosion occuring and extends the life of the bridges.

What is the project timeline?
July 2009 - We begin construction
September 2009 - Joes Creek Bridge will be complete
March 2010 - F.B. Hoit Bridge will be complete
