This project made safety improvements to the State Route 4 and State Route 401 corridors in Pacific, Wahkiakum, and Cowlitz counties. Safety improvements will reduce the severity of collisions where motorists have driven off the roadway.
The SR 401 improvements began where US Highway 101 meets SR 401 near Knappton, and ended at the northern point of SR 401, where the state route meets SR 4.
The SR 4 improvements began where the roadway meets US Highway 101, near Johnsons Landing in Pacific County. The improvements went east, through Wahkiakum and Cowlitz counties, ending where the roadway meets State Route 432.
This project improved safety by reducing the severity of collisions where motorists have driven off the roadway.

Your thoughts and opinions are important to us. WSDOT hosted an open house during the design process to share information and receive input from the public. WSDOT continually informed the public of the project status through this Web page and the local media.
At WSDOT we seek to address the concerns of the tribal nations using the process outlined in Section 106 of The National Historic Preservation Act and the WSDOT Tribal Consultation Policy adopted in 2003 by the Transportation Commission as part of the WSDOT Centennial Accord Plan.
