This project was complete in June 2011, and improved safety on State Route 4 just east of Cathlamet (milepost 39) in Wahkiakum County.
Maintenance records and geotechnical investigations determined that rock fall prevention was necessary at this location to reduce the risk of rocks falling onto the highway and protect the traveling public.
Throughout the project, crews removed loose rock, unstable soil, trees and other debris from the slope above the roadway.
This stretch of State Route 4 often succumbs to weather-related slides, compromising safety and spurring costly repairs. This project helped reduce both.
