'Before' picture of the rockface in the Windy Point vicintity between Bremerton and Gorst that WSDOT secured during the project.
Overview
The cliff faces along SR 3 contained loose rocks and boulders with large cracks, causing the potential for rockfall on the highway.
This project removed the loose rocks and other debris from the slopes and used anchor bolts to hold large rocks on the slopes.
Wire mesh slope protection fencing was installed to protect motorists from potential rockfall onto the highway.
The SR 3 project improved safety for the approximately 71,000 drivers who travel through the Windy Point area between Bremerton and Gorst.
 | Improves Safety
By removing unstable material and installing rock bolts and protective fencing, WSDOT reduced the potential for future rockslides.
|
 | Relieves Congestion
This project improved mobility by vreducing the possibility of emergency closures and traffic delays due to rockslides.
