SR 3 - Imperial Way to Sunnyslope - Complete September 2007

Overview
This area (mileposts 31 to 32.5), was formerly identified as a 'high accident location.' The safety project includes a two-way left turn lane from MP 31.4 to MP 32.0, and reduces conflicts between left turning vehicles and through traffic.

Extending the southbound truck-climbing lane shifted the merging point away from business and residential access, eliminating a three-way conflict between turning vehicles, through vehicles, and merging trucks.

Slope flattening and removal of obstructions  creates a recovery area for errant vehicles.

How You Benefit
Cross GlyphImproves Safety
This project reduces the number of collisons within this corridor and minimizes the severity of those collisions that do take place.

As an additional benefit, the flattened slopes and consistent lines along the shoulder of the roadwayimprove the general appearance of this section of highway.
Car GlyphRelieves Congestion
A new two-way left turn lane from the Skeet Club to just south of Gorst Creek improves access to local business and residences while minimizing impacts to through traffic.
Leaf Glyph Protects Environment
The slope flattening provides an excellent opportunity for water quality treatment along the highway.

Compost was installed and grass was planted along the ditch lines to form a bioswale, which filters storm water and water runoff from the highway.
