Overview
The Department improved capacity and safety by widening SR 270 from a two-lane roadway to a four-lane facility with a 14-foot wide median lane configuration with rumble strips. 

SR 270 is an important commute route between two university communities, Pullman (Washington State University), and Moscow (University of Idaho). Along with passenger vehicles, this route also carries a large number of heavy trucks

How You Benefit
Cross GlyphImproves Safety
This project substantially improved safety by creating additional travel lanes for safer passing and a median turn lane for safer access to connecting roads and access approaches.
Car GlyphRelieves Congestion
The project increased capacity and reduced travel times with the two additional travel lanes.

Partnerships & Cooperation
WSDOT partnered with Whitman County for improvements to the Sunshine Road bridge and the Bill Chipman Trail.

This project was funded through the following sources:

2003 Gas Tax (Nickel Funding) - $28.5 million
Existing Funds - $2,128,053
Other Agencies $588,396
Total Funding Available From All Sources - $31.2 million
