Overview
This safety improvement, collision reduction project is located on SR 26 and Thacker Road, near Othello, in southwestern Adams County.
SR 26 is an agricultural truck route and one of the main routes between western Washington and Pullman for WSU students. The SR 26 Safety Corridor Project, conducted in 2004 and 2005 recommended that two left turn lanes, a right turn pocket, and lighting, would reduce accidents at Thacker Road.
 | Improves Safety
From '96 to '03, there were 20 accidents at this intersection. The accidents resulted in 25 injuries with 1 accident causing permanent disabling injuries. The left turn lanes now provide a safe queue for motorists reducing the potential for rear end accidents. The right turn pocket provides a safe place for motorists to slow down reducing the potential for rear end collisions. A new illumination system improves vision and safety at night.
