Overview
Construction began June 1st and was completed on June 19, 2009. This Collision Prevention project began west of Othello on SR 26 near the Grant County line and extended 21.5 miles east. This safety improvement project included installation of rumble strips and guardrail as well as removal of roadside hazards.

Rumble strips and guardrail reduce the number and severity of run-off-the-road collisions on this busy route to Washington State University.

Partnerships & Cooperation
WSDOT consulted with the City of Othello and Washington State University to identify hazards and schedule the work to minimize traffic impacts.

Funding

The project was advertised for private contractor bids on February 9th, 2009. Four qualified bids were opened March 5th. On March 9th, contract #7684 was awarded to Frank Gurney, Inc. for $239,176.05, 27% under the engineering estimate.

This project was funded through the following sources:

· 2005 TPA 9-1/2 cent gas tax - $720,000

· Total Funding - $720,000
