Why is WSDOT repaving SR 203 from Monroe to Carnation?

This stretch of highway between Monroe and Carnation sees heavy traffic between King and Snohomish counties, and the pavement is deteriorating. Without some attention, drivers will continue to run into potholes, ruts and cracks, leading to, at best, a rough drive.

This work will be performed mostly on weekdays from 8:30 to 3 p.m. so as to cut down on traffic and noise disruption, will put new pavement and high-visibility lane markings on a 12-mile span of the highway.

By grinding out the old pavement to remove the ruts and cracks and putting down a new layer of asphalt, drivers will enjoy a smoother drive and fewer taxpayer dollars will be necessary to fix the pavement.

The End Result
This project will extend the useful life of the pavement and improve safety for the approximately 13,000 drivers in Monroe and 9,500 drivers in Carnation who use this stretch of SR 203 daily.

Project Benefits
This project will extend the useful life of the pavement.
New reflective lane markings will improve visibility for drivers, especially during adverse weather.
