Overview
This roadway preservation project resurfaced 14 miles of State Route 20 in the vicinity of Sherman Pass.
The existing road surface was deteriorating. Repaving now preserves the existing pavement structure and extends pavement service life. The project also may include some safety improvements.
The end result is a safer highway, a smoother driving surface and an extended roadway life. This was achieved by overlaying the existing pavement with 1 1/2 inches of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) followed by 1/2 inch chip seal layer.

Repaving now preserves the existing pavement structure and extends pavement service life avoiding the much higher cost of rebuilding the entire roadway.

Partnerships & Cooperation
WSDOT seeks to address the concerns of tribal nations using the process outlined in section 106 of The National Historical Preservation Act and the WSDOT Tribal Consultation Policy adopted in 2003 by the Transportation Commission as part of the WSDOT Centennial Accord Plan.
