Overview
We made safety improvements that will provide better sight distance, run-off room along the shoulders, and reduce collisions at intersections.
We straightened sharp corners and leveled two hills where visibility was reduced on SR 20. Realigned sections of the highway and improved intersections will increase motorists sight distance and help reduce collisions.
In addition, utility poles were relocated away from the highway, and trees and other roadside obstructions were removed. Coupled with wider lanes and shoulders, drivers now have more room to safely maneuver their vehicles.
 | Improves Safety
Rear-end collisions and subsequent injuries have been reduced. Drivers have better sight distance, allowing them more time to brake for stopped traffic on the highway.
Removing roadside obstructions like telephone poles and trees, along with widening lanes and shoulders, gives drivers more time to safely stop if they run off the road.
New lighting helps drivers see better at night and in bad weather.

 | Relieves Congestion
Side streets were improved, turn lanes were added and a bus pullout was built just south of Haga Road to reduce congestion and improve safety.
|
 | Protects Environment
We installed new drainage and catch basins, and built stormwater treatment facilities, including five detention ponds. This work will help protect local waterways.
