Why is WSDOT studying sections of State Routes 19 and 20?
WSDOT is studying this corridor in collaboration with Jefferson County Public Works, the City of Port Townsend and other users of the route to identify ways to improve safety and reduce congestion. These routes are identified as Highways of Statewide Significance and provide a regional connection beween the Olympic Peninsula and Island County via the Port Townsend ferry.

The End Result
The study results in a prioritized list of short-, mid-, and long-term projects that can compete for state transportation funds. Study results will be documented in a final report at the conclusion of the corridor plan process.

Project Benefits
The corridor plan outlines a vision for the future development of SR 19 and the portion of SR 20 that leads to the Port Townsend ferry terminal. The study will recommend improvement strategies for existing and future investments to the transportation system along these two state routes.

A corridor plan identifies transportation safety and mobility improvement opportunities and guides WSDOT's investments in the corridor over a 20-year period. The plan will target many of the congestion, safety and roadside issues that travelers often face.

What is the project timeline?
The study is expected to take 18 months and conclude with the publication of the final Corridor Plan.
