SR 18 – SR 99 to Green River Bridge Paving - Complete November 2013

This project was completed in November 2013

WSDOT repaved and improved sidewalks and crosswalks on SR 18 in three locations between SR 99 in Federal Way and the Green River (Neely) Bridge just east of Auburn. Repairing SR 18 helps extend the life of the highway while improving driver and pedestrian safety.

State Route 18 is an important east/west corridor in South King County, connecting Interstate 5 to State Route 167 (Valley Freeway) and Interstate 90.

The following improvements were made:

SR 18 between SR 99 and Weyerhaeuser Way.
• Crews ground down and repaved about one mile of SR 18 in both directions.

SR 18 bridge approaching the C Street Southwest exit.

• Crews smoothed out a noticeable bump and dip in the roadway caused by years of repaving the connection point where the bridged section meets the ground level highway.

Eastbound SR 18 Green River Bridge deck rebuild.
• Crews removed an inch of worn concrete and replaced it with an inch and a half of new concrete pavement.
• We also repaired the expansion and transverse joints by replacing rubber seals and metal plates. Expansion joints help the bridge deck bend and flex with changes in temperature.
