South Cable Completed:
In the month since crews finished spinning the south suspension cable,
workers have been compacting and banding the 19 strands that make up a
single cable into a 20½-inch diameter "steel rope." Crews
used about 9,500 miles of cable wire to spin the south cable. During the
spinning process, each wire was precisely placed into one of 19 strands,
with each strand containing 464 wires.
