South Cable Completed:
On Tuesday, January 24, crews finished spinning the south suspension cable - a total of 8,816 wires. Approximately 9,500 miles of cable was used in spinning the one cable. As the cable was spun, each wire was precisely placed into one of 19 strands, with each strand containing 464 wires. Crews are now compacting and banding the 19 strands together to create a 20½-inch diameter main suspension cable.
