Spin...Spin...Spin:
On Thursday, Oct. 13, bridge builder Tacoma Narrows Constructors began spinning the first suspension cable wire from the Tacoma anchorage, over the tops of the towers, to the Gig Harbor anchorage and back again. For the next three months, crews will spin steel wire, the diameter of a pencil, in groups of four until a total of 8,816 individual steel wires have been spun, and a 20½-inch cable has been made.
