Thursday, the bridge builders reached a new milestone when
workers stretched a 5/8-inch steel cable from land to the top of the Gig
Harbor tower. Installing what is referred to a 'pilot line' is the preliminary
step before cable spinning begins in mid-September. When spinning is complete,
a pair of 20½-inch cables will support the weight of the deck and the
vehicles it carries.
