Tacoma Narrows Bridge Photo Album
Bridge Anchorages
An anchor frame, made up of 19 "strand shoes" and 38 "anchor rods" is embedded
into the Tacoma anchorage. An anchorage - one on other side of the bridge -
is a massive concrete block, weighing nearly a million pounds each, that supports
the weight of the bridge cables. The anchor frames, ultimately, distribute the
bridge load into the anchorage.
