Tacoma Narrows Bridge Project - Animations

Virtual Bridge Construction

Step inside the world of virtual bridge construction. The following video simulations reveal the completed parallel span and show the construction of major parts of the new bridge.

NEW: Deck Transfer From Ship to Barge
Before any of the 46 deck sections can be lifted into place along profile of the new bridge, crews must transfer individual blocks that average 78-feet wide by 120-feet long from the ship SWAN to the barge MARMAC. In this footage, the first deck section that weighs 488 tons and measures 116-feet long is being lifted and placed on the barge. File is in MPEG format, 4.3 megabytes and is zipped. Click to begin download. (Images used to compile this clip are courtesy of Gerry Collen, Gig Harbor)
