Overview
This safety improvement project; added an acceleration lane (westbound Burley-Olalla to Tacoma), lengthened an existing deceleration lane (Bremerton to eastbound Burley-Olalla, and improved the existing right turn corner (northbound SR 16 to eastbound Burley-Olalla) with minor widening and a painted traffic island.
The result of this project is an intersection that is less confusing for drivers. There are also fewer potential conflict points between mainline SR 16 through-traffic and vehicles entering and exiting the highway.
 | Improves Safety
The project simplifies the intersection's cross movements and allows for greater acceleration and deceleration distances.

Partnerships & Cooperation
In response to the comments and inquiries from an initial open house, WSDOT convened a Citizens Advisory Committee, composed of area residents, a Kitsap County elected official, Washington State Patrol, local fire and school districts, and a representative from Kitsap County. The committee held three workshops.
At WSDOT we seek to address the concerns of the tribal nations using the process outlined in Section 106 of The National Historic Preservation Act and the WSDOT Tribal Consultation Policy adopted in 2003 by the Transportation Commission as part of the WSDOT Centennial Accord Plan.
This process is not applicable because the project does not impact tribal lands.
Funding
The project budget included $792,000 in federal funds.
