Work began Feb. 28 and was complete May 26, 2011.
This Preservation Program project stabilizes three rock slopes. Locally known as "Rocky Point", it is on the north side of the highway three miles east of Manson.
Why is WSDOT
Stabilizing these slopes?
They were identified for stabilization under the WSDOT Unstable Slope Management Program. The slopes were evaluated, rated and analyzed for cost vs. benefit in 2004 and failed to qualify for funding, but when the slopes were reevaluated in 2008, slope conditions had deteriorated and they were funded for construction in the next budget cycle.
A minimum rating of 350 and a cost/benefit of 1.0 is necessary for funding. These slopes were rated from 405 to 477 with c/b's from 4.36 to 6.59
The WSDOT Geotechnical engineers recommended:
- Removing loose rocks and debris from the slopes.
- Installation of rock bolts to secure larger rock formations that cannot be removed.
- Installation of steel netting to contain any rock that does fall, from reaching the roadway.
The End Result
The risk of rocks falling onto SR 150 is reduced between Manson and Chelan.

- Reduced pavement repair costs.

The project was advertised for private contractor bids Nov. 22, 2010. Six qualified bids were opened Dec. 16. On Dec. 20, contract #8056 was awarded to HI TECH Rockfall Construction, Inc. for $1,377,777.00, 15% below the engineering estimate.
