Why is WSDOT
paving this section of SR 142?
Asphalt pavement typically lasts eight to 10 years. SR 142 near Goldendale was last paved in 1994 and was due for repairs.
The pavement was cracking and showing other signs of deterioration. It needed to be restored to ensure the highway remains sound and drivable in the years to come.
This project paved SR 142 in both directions between the Little Klickitat River Bridge and the US 97 junction in Goldendale (mileposts 33.6 to 35.3) and made safety improvements, such as new signs and striping.
Sidewalk ramps along SR 142 in Goldendale were upgraded to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act standards.
The End Result
Drivers have a safer, smoother driving surface and the roadway will last longer. Pedestrians and people with disabilities have improved access to sidewalks and crosswalks.
Project Benefits
- Safety: Enhances motorist safety and drivability with a smoother road surface.
- Preservation: Requires less repair work and reduces maintenance costs.
- Accessibility: Improves access for pedestrians and people with disabilities.
