April 2013
This project contract was awarded to Thompson Bros. Excavating, Inc. on March 21, 2013 for $995,503. Construction will begin in mid-June.
Why is WSDOT
replacing the exisiting culverts under SR 112 and Eden Valley Road?
The existing highway culvert is a barrier to fish passage. Many highway culverts were installed years before we understood and recognized the needs of fish. The Department is committed to fixing its fish barrier culverts as part of the Fish Passage Program.
The End Result
A modified culvert that meets environmental standards allowing fish to pass freely under the highway.
Project Benefits
Salmon and other fish need access to freshwater habitat for spawning and juvenile rearing. WSDOT recognizes that removing fish barriers is important to the restoration of fish habitat and salmon recovery efforts.
Since 1991, WSDOT has completed 269 fish barrier removal projects opening up over 904 miles of potential upstream habitat for fish.
What is the project timeline?
