Overview
The track was upgraded from lightweight rail to rail that could handle heavier 286,000-pound freight cars. These upgrades will also support increased freight traffic on the line as well as the planned passenger train to Mt. Rainier. Construction began in March 2007 and was completed in October 2007.

Partnerships & Cooperation
WSDOT worked with county governments, city governments, and the Federal Railroad Administration to complete the rehabilitation work.
