November 2009
Tacoma Rail, WSDOT, and Sound Refining have signed the Grant Agreement.
Why is WSDOT
building the new spur track at Sound Refining?
The existing Sound Refining terminal facility has only 2 spur tracks for railcars. This limits the number of rail cars that can be unloaded at the terminal. Building an additional spur track will enable Sound Refining to unload 10-12 more rail cars at a time. This added capacity will increase efficiency and lower costs.
The End Result
The end result of this project is that Tacoma Rail and Sound Refining will be able to bring more product into the terminal by rail.
Project Benefits
- Increased rail car unloading capacity.
- Reduced product shipping costs.
- Reduced switching needs.
What is the project timeline?
The project is scheduled to begin construction in Winter 2010 and is scheduled to be complete in June 2010.
