Overview
Previously, the Sound Refining terminal facility had only two spur tracks for railcars. This limited the number of rail cars that could be unloaded at the terminal. Building an additional spur track enables Sound Refining to unload 10-12 more rail cars at a time.

This project included the installation of a new spill retention tank to protect the immediate environment and the nearby Puget Sound.

Added rail capacity increases efficiency and increases capacity at Sound Refining to grow their business and add jobs in the region.

Tacoma Rail applied for this Freight Rail Assistance grant in partnership with Sound Refining, administered by WSDOT.
