Overview
During the 2006 session, the Washington State Legislature directed that Stanwood would be a new stop on the Amtrak Cascades corridor.
The legislature provided $5 million for the project. WSDOT used these funds to acquire land, obtain all required environmental clearances, complete project engineering, relocate utilities, install new railroad tracks and ties, and construct the station, a stormwater detention facility, and a new roadway. The station was completed under budget on November 16, 2009 and opened for business on November 21st.
 | Relieves Congestion
The station project is intended to reduce traffic congestion by providing the residents of Stanwood and Camano Island with more transportation options.
|
 | Economic Incentive
By enabling more tourists to visit the Stanwood and Camano Island area, it is hoped that the station will inspire some economic development.
