Overview
This project built a new rail connection to Spokane County’s Airway Heights Industrial Park to replace the connection that passed through Fairchild Air Force Base. The new spur connects the Geiger Spur with the former Palouse River and Coulee City (PCC) rail line. The former PCC rail line connects with the BNSF main line at Cheney. This will maintain the connections of the rail-dependent companies already at Airway Heights Industrial Park to the national rail system, and attract new industries to the industrial park.
 | Improves Safety
The rebuilt spur will keep the track in safe condition for many years to come.
|
 | Protects Environment
Rebuilding the Geiger Spur keeps existing shipments on rail. Rail transportation per ton-mile requires less fuel and produces less pollution than other forms of transportation. This translates to significant fuel and pollution savings for farmers and end customers.
|
 | Economic Incentive
Continues rail service to existing customers, thereby preserving almost 400 jobs. Continued rail service also provides an opportunity for further economic development of the area.
