Rail - Quincy Short Haul Intermodal Pilot Project

Status

November 2009

Construction started in July and has been completed. NYK Line (shipping company) will start to use the facility in the near future.

Why is WSDOT contributing funds to this intermodal pilot project at the Port of Quincy?
This project provides funds to the Port of Quincy to support further development of its new transload facility.

The End Result
This project will support the operation of a transload facility where trucks and containers can be loaded on and off railcars for movement to Puget Sound ports.

With this investment, the Quincy Inland Intermodal Industrial Park will be fully operational, providing Quincy-area exporters and perishable shippers additional shipping options and capacity to reach their markets.

Project Benefits

  • Reduce shipping costs for Columbia Basin produce
  • Provide Quincy-area exporters and perishable shippers additional shipping options and capacity to reach their markets
  • Minimize the added wear and tear on state roadways caused each year by thousands of heavy truckloads

What is the project timeline?
Project funds will be used to purchase equipment, including a container lift and a forklift, and for start-up costs between January 2006 and November 2009.
