Overview
The SR 16, Union Avenue to Jackson Avenue HOV project included noise walls along the corridor, including a 2,500-foot wall between 6th and 12th avenues.
In May 2006, inspection crews observed that a 100+/- foot section appeared too low to provide the necessary noise abatement; the adjacent property could be seen over the top of the wall from SR 16.
The wall was initially raised two feet, which was the maximum feasible without foundation modifications.
In September 2006, further investigation determined the noise modeling was in error and the wall needed to be raised as much as eight feet along a 270-foot section of the wall.
WSDOT awarded the project to Tri-State construction in March 2010 and the project was completed summer 2010.
The wall shields adjacent properties from SR 16 traffic, and reduces the amount of noise generated by this section of highway.
