US 2 - Jct SR 211 To Newport Paving - Complete October 2009

Overview
The WSDOT Resurfaced about 13 miles of US 2 with a layer of Hot Mix asphalt.

The new layer of asphalt protects and preserves the underlying raodway base thus protecting the publics investment in the system.

Partnerships & Cooperation
WSDOT worked with the City of Newport to coordinate construction within the City.

Also, WSDOT seeks to address the concerns of tribal nations using the process outlined in section 106 of The National Historical Preservation Act and the WSDOT Tribal Consultation Policy adopted in 2003 by the Transportation Commission as part of the WSDOT Centennial Accord Plan.

Funding

Awarded to Knife River of Colville, WA with a construction bid of $5,182,153. Funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act with an obligated amount of $6,33,000.
